2 Cups of Coffee With Jesus

coffee-cup-working-happy-largeLike you, I'm busy. Most days I have many demands and many meetings. I've learned that my most important meeting of the day is with Jesus. I've learned that I need to prioritize (and put on the calendar) my most important, most Life-giving meeting of the day. This is how I do it. Each morning a standing meeting pops up on my calendar. It's my first meeting of the day. This meeting is written in my calendar as "Be with God," it's a time where I generally use this "Be with God" tool I wrote up to frame my time of connecting with God. But I like variety, so I vary what these morning meetings look like: sometimes I sit in a private place with my Bible, sometimes I take a prayer walk around the block, sometimes I involve my sons in reading the Bible and praying together, sometimes I sit in silence and see what surfaces in my heart as I seek to connect with God, oftentimes I find great joy in thinking of all the ways I can thank God, etc. But, amid the variety, one thing always stays the same: two cups of coffee. I don't aim for a set amount of time for connecting with Jesus in the morning, but this meeting always takes place over however long it takes me to drink my two cups of morning coffee. Sometimes that's two cups in twenty minutes, sometimes it's two cups over the course of an unhurried hour. There are days where this meeting doesn't happen, my morning has to start with more of a rush or I often start Saturday mornings with the newspaper, but at least six days a week I start my morning with two cups of coffee with Jesus. It's my favorite way to start the day. You might want to try it.
