The Gospel Coalition Conference: Getting Started
The Gospel Coalition Conference is just now getting underway here in the chapel at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. I arrived here about an hour ago and enjoyed having lunch with a few of the pastors/staff members at City Life Church in Boston, a church I happened to visit 3 weeks ago. During this lunch Stephen Um, senior pastor of City Life Church and a central leader in the Gospel Coalition, shared with me the history and vision behind the Gospel Coalition. According to Stephen, Tim Keller and D.A Carson have, along with roughly 50 other "stakeholder" pastors, spent over 3 years forming this coalition and drafting the group's documents, documents which are to be revealed later today. I'm looking forward to seeing these. The most surprising/encouraging/humbling experience I've had in my short hour here was meeting and chatting with Tim Keller in the lunch line and having Tim look at my name tag, spot my last name, and tell me that he's familiar with my blog, that he's read my stuff from time to time. That was surprising, encouraging, and humbling. The conference is now beginning with singing and shortly we'll here D.A. Carson's opening address from 1 Corinthians 15. Stay tuned...
