Buy A Five-Year Journal

As we approach 2021, I have a recommendation for my friends: Buy a Five-Year Journal. Two years ago I bought a Five-Year Journal as a gift for my wife. She didn't like it. So, I took back my gift and decided to try it myself. I've kept a journal since freshman year of high school—some years writing a lot and other years writing very little, but never writing daily. I decided this new tool could bring me new discipline and discoveries.Previously, I'd simply write in my journals whenever I felt like it. Sometimes I'd write a paragraph, other times I'd write ten pages of thoughts/reflections/prayer/feelings/ideas/dreams/praises. Now, about two years into using this new tool, I love the discipline of writing daily within the limits of just six lines (a few times a month I get behind and write several days worth of entries). An entry takes just two minutes to write if I'm in a quick "recording mood", or several more minutes if I'm in a "reflective mood" and wanting to capture deep thought/prayer within the six line limit. You can see my handwriting is terrible, it's been a problem since Kindergarten. At least I can read it.Now that I'm two years in, the best feature is reading my entries from the previous year which helps me remember where I've been, reflect on how God has been faithful (this has grown my habit of giving thanks), and dream/imagine/pray for a vision of the future abounding with answered prayer. I also like drawing a simple sketch of an event I journal about, which helps visual me better cement and remember my experiences.Give it a try. Buy a Five-Year Journal. Five years from now I bet most of you will have liked, benefited, and stuck with it. I bought mine on Amazon, I think it was about $10.
