Fear God 10000000000000000x more than this virus.

We should fear God 10000000000000000x more than we’re fearing this virus. People playing so cheap with their eternity. This virus is real and dangerous, so let's keep taking wise precautions. When I wrote Don't Waste Your Coronavirus on March 15th 2020, I had no clue that 8 months later our globe would still be so dented by this pandemic. We should fear this virus.BUT, there is such a thing as over-fear, misplaced fear, fearing the wrong thing. In my 42 years of life I've never seen people so afraid. Right now many people's greatest fear is the "invisible enemy" of COVID-19. While understandable, to choose this virus as your primary "fear" is foolish, short-sighted, stupid, soul-crushing, sinful, joy-destroying, damaging, and damning.

The fear of (Awe of, putting-first-of) the LORD is the beginning of knowledge -Proverbs 1:7I tell you, my friends, do not fear those who kill the body, and after that have nothing more that they can do. But I will warn you whom to fear: fear him who, after he has killed, has authority to cast into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear him! -Luke 12:4-5The LORD is my light and my salvation, whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? ...Though an army (or COVID-19) encamp against me, my heart shall not fear; though war arise against me, yet I will be confident.  -Psalm 27:1, 3Let all the earth fear the LORD; let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him! -Psalm 33:8For when dreams increase and words grow many, there is vanity; but God is the one you must fear. -Ecclesiastes 5:7Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? And not one of them is forgotten before God. Why, even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not; you are of more value than many sparrows. -Luke 12:6-7

Every human being chooses their fear—what we put first, stand in awe of, worship, orbit our lives around. Our world is currently contagious with fear—in primary awe of this virus. This is a foolish primary fear. Why aren't we afraid of the Living God, of sin, of hell? Why aren't we afraid of an eternity (and a right now) of missing out on the abundant Life of knowing/fearing/worshipping/enjoying the one true God who created us and came to save us? What if we were contagious with the freedom, joy, and confidence of enjoying Life with the Living God and having no reason to fear death? We should fear God 10000000000000000x more than we’re fearing this virus. People playing so cheap with their eternity.
