Don't Waste Your Coronavirus, Part 4: Pick 1 Thing
Since the first post in this series we've been thinking about how to not waste this coronavirus moment. Once we get through this we don't want to look back and say, "I wasted it!" We don't want to be the same on the other side of this—we want to grow, change, create, mature, make a difference. People keep saying they want things to return "back to normal." I abhor this idea. I don't want you, me, or our communities to return to normal post-pandemic. What we're dreaming about here is creating a new normal, a better normal.But beware of overdoing this. Don't try to do too much. Many of us won't steward this season well because we'll do too many good things instead of one great thing. To not waste this moment we need focus.Here's my suggestion: Pick just 1 great thing you want to focus a large amount of energy on during COVID-19. I'd suggest making this a goal that's tied to your character, to who you are. What's the 1 way you want to be different on the other side of this? The 1 thing you pick will influence everything else—how you do relationships, how you lead, how you work, how you serve your neighbors, etc. You're picking the first domino that has the power to knock down a lot of other dominos.Deep change (sanctification) occurs in humans when we're focused on just 1 or 2 areas of major growth. I recently asked my family, our staff, my Discipleship Group, and our church (see the "Dream Together" portion of our Sunday Liturgy) to pick their "1 Thing." Our family of five has a small sheet of paper taped to our refrigerator with each person's 1 Thing written on it. We each see our singular great goal daily, we work on it daily, and each night at the dinner table we tell stories of how our 1 thing is going and we encourage each other over progress we see. We're having fun with this.Don't waste this moment. Pick 1 thing. Involve others. And have fun with it.[mc4wp_form id="9268”]
